The location of Oberhof can be found in a fairly simple way: If you draw a straight line in your mind from Germany's north to south and the same from east to west, you should find Oberhof not too far from the point where the two straight lines cross. Oberhof is therefore located in the centre of Germany, in Thuringia.

The associated district is Schmalkalden-Meiningen, which lies in the south-west of the Free State.

This part of Germany is characterised by the heights of the Thuringian Forest and Oberhof itself is a stately 815 metres above sea level.

Not far from Oberhof you will find Europe's most famous high-altitude trail, the Rennsteig. The neighbouring Wartburgkreis district borders directly on the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse. So from Oberhof you also have close access to very beautiful parts of the German Fairytale Route. After all, Frau Holle and Hänsel and Gretel are said to have experienced their stories in Northern Hesse.
